These kind of files are often detected by some antivirus as a threat and that doesn't always mean it's infected, but i agree this one look a bit suspicious. When running this file there is an attempt to create the file BASSMOD.dll in the windows\system32 folder and even if it seems to do no harm it's a bit strange behavior.
Here is the latest version (6.0.2 Build 260) of SecureCRT with another patch which is for sure NOT infected.


In case you want the previous version

Run the included patch from the SecureCRT installation folder, click patch then enter something in the Name and Company field and click generate. Use the serial, date and license key to register. This one is created for an earlier version of SecureCRT, but works fine for the latest release as well. You will see a warning for the file "vsftp.exe" that can be ignored (click no when asked to retry) since this file is no longer included with the latest version of SecureCRT and therefore don't need to be patched. Since this patch worked fine for every 5.x and 6.x release so far i'm pretty sure it will work for new releases (at least any new 6.xx release) as well that can be downloaded directly from Vandyke.



All is clean my dear,no need to call every patch like infected files, aha? Btw as wrote gan, there is attempt to creat BASSMOD.dll, this library is needed for playing music whle patcher is working. Different patchers can use different music engines, so its naturally that your patch doesnt use it

Follow the more recent version 6.0.1 build 213 with patch:




This is the same version as the one i posted and the same as the one that can be downloaded from Vandyke which is the latest official version. Even if not specified the one i posted is 6.0.1 build 213 as well which is the only official 6.0.1 build released by Vandyke.

Vandyke always increase the version number when there is a new official release. So in cases where there is two releases with the same version number, but a different build one of them is a interim release that they sometime release to users that reported a specific problem. Those fixes is usually included in the next version.

hey fawaz, when i try to use the serial, date and license it says that i might be using a different version of secure crt and hence it wont update the license. when u patch it does it update the securecrt.exe with the new serial # and license? i installed the version after i patch it, but it still wont update the license. then i entered the serial # and license # , it sitll wont update the license. Any help would be appreciated.


That means you have not been able to patch SCRT. Follow the instructions and make sure SCRT is not running while you click patch, then enter a name and company, click generate and use the license key, serial and date from the keygen.

when u patch it, does the serial number of crt has to match the one from keygen? mine doesnt match. which securecrt.exe am i supposed to run, the one in the backup folder or the original one? how do u know if the securecrt.exe is patched or not?





What do you mean serial number have to match? You patch, click generate and use the serial, license key and issue date from the keygen.....these steps is really easy. The serial, license key and issue date have to match of course. Either you use all the info from the keygen or nothing at all from the keygen. You cannot find another serial, but use the license key and issue date from the keygen. If you use Vista you probably have to right click and select "run as administrator" for the patch to work. To start SecureCRT just use the shortcut under the startmenu....the backup folder is the backup which is the original/unmodified securecrt.exe.....don't worry about this one unless you want to restore the unpatched version. To find out if patched or not just check the timestamp of the file or compare to the one in the backup folder. This should be really easy so not sure why you cannot make it work.

i am using windows vista and ran as admininstrator. when i click patch the file is not updated at all wiht the time stamps !!





I cannot remember, but i do believe you have to run the keygen from the SCRT installation directory. Do you use the Team Again keygen?

And where is the keygen located when you run the keygen? Like i said it should be in the directory where you installed SCRT.

Instructions:
Copy the keygen.exe to the SecureCRT program directory (ex: C:\Program Files\Vandyke\SecureCRT). Then run the keygen (run as admin using Vista) then everything should work fine until you see a popup which says that "vsftp.exe" already exist, then you click no and ignore this message since this file no longer exists using newer versions of SCRT. Then you enter a name and company (both fields must be used) and click generate. You should get a serial, date and license key. Notice that the license key field is to small to show the whole key so you have to scroll to the right to see the whole key. You can click in this field, press home, then hold the shift key and press end and the whole field should be selected. Then you press CTRL-C to copy the license key.

Below is an example of a working serial, date and license key when patched correctly:
Name: Test
Company: Test
Serial: 03-50-001492
Date: 13-06-2008
License key: ADDPH1 TVXC11 2Q2DUG CFMZEU ADWQHE V93DC8 68823J DEPBRY

The license key format should consist of 8 blocks of 6 letters or numbers.

If you still cannot make it work i have no idea what you do wrong since i never heard that anyone had that much problem using the keygen. In that case i don't think i have any further tips.
